Who wants to draw hydrangeas for his garden or garden friends himself, does not even have to have a green thumb. The propagation through cuttings is eg very easy.

Hardly a flower is planted in a garden more than the hydrangea. No wonder, because its rustic charm gives every garden a special flair. In addition, the hydrangea can be used so varied in the garden. Whether as a container plant, in a bed or as a hedge - the hydrangea is always ideal as a flower blob in the midst of green leaves. Its spherical shape can be found, for example, in cottage gardens. Once you have planted a hydrangea in the garden, you usually can not get enough of it. That's not too bad, because from a single hydrangea you can attract many more plants in a jiffy. This is made possible by the propagation of cuttings, which generally always works smoothly with hydrangeas. With a little skill, you can draw in a short time a hydrangea flower sea.

To multiply hydrangeas by cuttings

  1. July, cut off a few new shoots that are not yet woody and do not yet have flower buds, and divide them into sections with a pair of leaves at the top and bottom. However, you must cut off the lower leaves. On the other hand, cut the upper in the middle, so that the cuttings do not take up so much space in the growing pot and the evaporation area is also reduced.
  2. Now insert the shoots a few centimeters deep into a pot with potting soil. This contains all the nutrients that the cuttings need in the beginning for rooting. Then moisten the soil well and always make sure that the soil remains moist.
  3. Now the seed tanks still need a hood. Here it is sufficient if you simply cover the cuttings with a little foil. After about 3 to 4 weeks the first fine roots form in a shady place in the garden. Afterwards you can already watch how the cuttings get bigger and bigger.
  4. Once enough roots have formed, you can transplant the cuttings into individual small pots. Covering but no longer need the plantlets. In winter, however, you have to bring it into the house and put it in a cool place. Next spring you can plant the new hydrangea plantlets completely in the garden.

Important:

Hydrangeas need a lot of water. That's why it's important that you water them regularly . It is also important that you fertilize the hydrangeas regularly . Simply add a special hydrangea fertilizer to the irrigation water every two months.
